Hi Jane, I had not given that much consideration to 2-5 until your lesson,and then talking to a friend who plays well, who told me that if you can’t remember the chords to “All the Things You Are”, consider them this way; the key signature is Ab:
chord progression 6251
(consider the key has changed to C) chord progression 251
(change key to Bb) chord progression 2514
(change to G) chord progression 251
Although the key signature remains Ab few altered notes are needed. 251 all over.
I swear… up until around 10 years ago… when I heard jazz guys talking amongst themselves and one of em said… oh it’s just a simple 2-5… me the dumb rock player thought they were talking time signature! I’m thinkin what?… 2 beats over 5 to the bar?… what the…???
Really nice. A bit advanced for me, I have to write stuff down and figure it out, but I am learning more (I did get the scale right; I was istening. I am loookng forward to seeing another lesson. The hardest part for me, and they are all hard is I just don’t know enough chords, the grip and the notes. There seems so much to learn. I think for me, a little theory and a song to use it on makes the most sense. Thanks. (and the fret board and reading) the part about why it is Ami7 clered that up

Jane I’ve played (sorta) for 40 years, lately jazz. Had 5 jazz teachers. Seen a million You Tube videos.
This is the clearest presentation I’ve seen. I sent it to my brother who just bought a Godin jazz guitar and wants to learn jazz.
