Modes are explained really beautifully by Joe Satriani in his youtube video.

This is not accurate at all. Modes have much deeper meaning than just playing scale patterns and starting notes. You will never learn the basic essence of modes by memorizing the way thought in this video. You have to know about the chord progressions and color tones of the modes to really understand them. This video is complete BS.

As this guy is playing in C, you won’t hear the effect of the modes unless you play a C as a drone note, then play the mode. If you change key you will have to play the root of the new key when you play the modes to hear the effect.

Books and at schools/universities make that high topic very complex and complicated.I am a musician since 6 years old,my father and mother are musicians too.And that’s the way I learned it from them. You are correct 100%.We need people like you at You Tube.Keep your excellent classes. To the other people making complaints here…I say to them: KISS(Keep It Simple Stupids)…Thanks for your REAL and SIMPLE EXPOSITION of MODES.If people learn the harmonic and melodic minors, are the same principles

Just because you play the Major scale starting on it’s different tones doesn’t mean your playing modally by any means. It goes a lot deeper than that. What’s the point of supposedly learning 1001 scales if you don’t know how to apply them or what makes them unique?

You’re 9 years old… you have a lot to learn kiddo. This is is awful. Maybe YOU should check out the real players on youtube to learn from like Joe Satriani or Lucien Nocelli. Go learn, grow up about 20 years, then post a video
